  • What a gem of a video! Good job.

  • Great vid, glad to see they adopted some of your tips in the latest updates in Cinnamon as of feb 2020. Thanks:)

  • Sir i have installed mint in virtualbox and in drivers manager it says (1) VMware svga 2 adapter – this device is not working and (2)innotek systemberatung – this device is not working.. What sould i do ? please reply

  • I should have known. I failed to reboot the system. As soon as I did the Swap Use was decreased to 10. Sorry for the Newbie mistake. And thanks again for your good work.

  • Thank you for your clear and concise presentation. I am using Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon, when I tried to use xed on the command line, as you show in 4. Decrease Swap Use, I got messages showing that 'xed' does not work. Has something changed? Or have I simply not followed your instructions carefully enough? I am not complaining. I really appreciate your work, and I am trying to follow your advice.

  • if you must choose …
linux mint or windows 7 ?

  • Like drivers: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But 1 thing you need is TimeShift, A MUST

  • Thanks for all this. I’m on the newest 19.3, so some settings weren’t available. Like the SSD write option… and hibernate was already gone. I hope I did things correctly, and chose not to mess with SSD editing… didn’t feel right with this new mint version. Think I’m ok??

  • Microcode is installed, but NOTHING shows in my driver manager… hmmmm??

  • if you have 16gig of memory, you 'd be better off turning off swap file alltogether either in linux or windows. Also I have mounted /tmp to tmpfs. this increases ssd life and makes your pc faster.

  • Let me say this first….I am a normal person. I don't know much about computers. Linux Mint was super easy to install and is so far very easy to use as well. Tell me why do we really need windows again?

  • too fast actions and screen not visible, try to do actions bit slow, as everyone will not be an expert

  • Дякую! Все супер! Можна на Лінукс встановити таке меню як в Віндах10?

  • Watching this video in November 2019, and I found it super helpful ..
Thank you very much sir. I just shifted from windows to Linux. And it is already giving me a new experience of using computers.

  • If Linux start using more than 60% of the RAM it will write to SWAP, so now it will write if will be more than 10% used. Is this not right? O_o By what you said on that you should write 90 instead of 10 … SO I assume you should say: if linux start using more than 40% of RAM

  • when i try to change my mirror it says Failed to load the package list

  • Windows brings sun 2x hotter…

  • I installed this on my atom laptop cause its specs meant it ran Uber slow on windows. It's still slow on Linux but better than windows. I wouldn't put it on my gtx 1060 desktop, it isn't really a plug and play OS. None of my YouTube videos work anymore so I'll have to work out what's going on

  • I am a new Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.1 user & this video is brilliant, well explained & plenty of warnings to be careful. Sir, you are great teacher, thank you !!

  • Is reboot mandatory!?
Or we can do just 'sudo swaooff -av && sudo swapon -av' to reenable and activate all SWAP mentioned in fstab.
    I tried it worked.

  • not sure how but after applying some your steps im using abot 2gb less ram than usual, nice one!

  • Great tutorial Thank you so much. I am about to switch over and although I am very nervous, I am also very happy for the chance to learn something new.

  • Thank you for this information. You are really helping new users of Linux convert over from Windows a lot easier.

  • I tried installing the recommended nvidia driver but my system went into ‘software rendering mode’ with bad resolution, so I reinstalled Mint and kept the open source driver option, why would the recommended driver cause the problem like that?
