Have you heard or read the term KDE, GNOME, XFCE , LXDE etc and wonder what these terms mean?

Well these are some of the popular Desktop Environment of Linux. A Desktop Environment consists of Icons, Window Manager, Folder, Wallpapers, Widgets and other functionality like drag and drop etc. Unlike other OS like Windows or Mac OS X, Linux gives you the power to choose your own Desktop Environment.

This video covers Desktop Environment of Linux in following parts :

1) What is a Desktop Environment?

2) Features of Four popular DE i.e KDE, GNOME, XFCE and LXDE.

3) LIVE DEMO on How to Install Multiple Desktop Environment on your Linux

4) How to Delete it if in future you decide to get rid of it.

In this video, I will demonstrate installing CINNAMON Desktop Environment on Kali Linux.

KALI LINUX uses APT Package Manager.

  • Lxde 👍

  • Great video, very informative, thanks!

  • That LXDE can possibly run on an ancient 486 laptop that still exist in my garage. I must try it, just for the hell of it.

  • Very informative information

  • Like the GNOME. KDE looks simple yet practical. XFCE is very useful for people coming from Windows. Never tried Cinamon which is new to me. Overall Linux has came many many steps ahead in last few years. One OS but many faces.

  • thanks.
    amazing vedio🖒

  • Who like this wallpaper??

  • I want to completely migrate to Kali Linux. Do you think Kali is more user friendly than Windows?

  • Nice & easy to understand thx 🙂

  • Excellent presentation of tons of info and also TO THE POINT.
Thanks you for such great video.

    I am using kali linux

  • So GNOME is meant to be less complex than KDE but uses more RAM?

  • Very informative and useful. Thank you very much.

  • Youbuntu?? Its ubuntu.

  • Wow, I dont think Ive ever seen anyone use Kali as a daily driver before. You are a pen tester then, no? I thought about doing this, but am a noob(sort of) and figured unless I was only using my machine to pen test/hack I should only run Kali off a USB when I need it. Just because Kali leaves you really open, lots of vulns, etc. I suppose its just like any other distro that you can make as secure or open as you wish, providing you know what youre doing. Very interesting, I like your work!

  • Quick to the point and has examples, as every YouTube video should be. Thank you for that.

  • unable to locate package cinnamon

  • Thank you for this video, it was very helpful.

I know Linux power users might not be interested, but could you do a video for the different Linux Mint types? Cinnamon / Mate / XFCE

As more people begin looking to try Linux, I'm sure a video explaining the differences would be appreciated. And you did a very good job with this video. Thanks
