How to Install VirtualBox 6.1.2 in Kali Linux 2020.1 | SYSNETTECH Solutions

This video shows you the installation steps of version 6.1.2 of Oracle VM VirtualBox, which allows you to run and use Windows, Linux and even macOS virtual machines on Kali Linux 2020.1.

To install VirtualBox virtual machine software on Kali Linux:

Step 1: If you have not installed Kali before, please refer to the video or article below.


Step 2: After installing Kali operating system, one of the first things you need to do is to install the VirtualBox virtualization program for me.

Step 3: With VirtualBox, you can install a Windows virtual machine on your Linux computer so you can run an Exe file. For installation, first, turn on your system and download VirtualBox for Linux from the link below.

Step 4: After downloading VirtualBox to your computer, open Terminal by pressing CTRL + Alt + T together.

Step 5: Run “cd Downloads” command in Terminal.

Step 6: Run “dpkg -i FileName.deb” command in Terminal to start to install the package with the DEB extension that you downloaded to your computer.

Step 7: If you get the following dependent packages error while installing VBox, you need to download the necessary packages.

➦ libsdl1.2debian
➦ libvpx5

Step 8: For Kali 2020.x version, download the libsdl1.2debian and libvpx5 packages from the Debian servers related to the WGET command to your computer.

Step 9: Install the packages with the DEB extension you downloaded in the same way with DPKG command.

Step 10: After installing both packages, try installing VirtualBox again. This time, you will get the following error;

This system is currently not set up to build kernel modules.
Please install the Linux kernel “header” files matching the current kernel for adding new hardware support to the system.
The distribution packages containing the headers are probably: linux-headers-amd64 linux-headers-5.4.0-kali3-amd64

Step 11: So you also need to install Linux Kernel files. After running the sudo apt-get install dkms build-essential command in Terminal, press Y to confirm the installation.

➦ sudo apt-get install dkms build-essential

Step 12: After successfully installing the latest version of VirtualBox on your Kali system, do not forget to install the Extension Pack package for guest machines!
