Mint and Elementary have a huge fan following and are highly appreciated for their gorgeous desktops. They both might be based on Ubuntu, but the similarities end right there both these distros are miles apart from each other.

So, how do they compare against each other? Which among them is the best? Which among them is more suitable FOR You? Linux Mint or Elementary OS. Let’s find out.

Elementary OS features the Pantheon desktop environment. Now pantheon desktop is clean, elegant and just so beautiful to look at. One can feel the resemblance to the MacOS desktop.
Everything, from the indicators to the wallpapers look so neat. The Application launcher is minimal, spacious and has a convenient search. It has 2 layouts, one is the default one and the other a category wise arrangement of apps.

All the apps integrate really smooth with the desktop theming. Looking at the overall setup, Elementary feels so organized and has a sense of calm to the desktop. And You’ll just love the wallpaper pack.

Linux Mint, on the other hand, is famous for its homegrown Cinnamon desktop. Cinnamon has a very huge fan following. And looking at it, it’s quite clear why.
Cinnamon desktop is highly intuitive, elegant and just so gorgeous to look at. The menu is organized and accessible. Unlike GNOME desktop, the menu does not cut the users workflow. Controlling your computer is really easy. Linux Mint’s interface is quite amazing.

Cinnamon is also highly customizable with a wide range of themes and additional widgets called spices. The effects and animations are there, but not so much that they distract you from your work. Linux Mint scores top points in the interface department.

  • I really like the way you keep these comparison videos on point, simple and straight forward. I have used linux for the study purpose here and there, from fedora to ubuntu. I am thinking of shifting to linux on permanent basis. However, there will be requirements, like I want to run softwares for data analysis and wonder if they will run smoothly on Linux. I also use Excel much so comparing libre office to MS office these days. Once I have my way clear, I will be a Linux user forever. Ubuntu and Mint are always on my mind. Thanks for doing these videos. Keep it up. 👍

  • As a long time Debian user from 2001 I have been running Linux Mint for the last few years on my Linux desktop. I have also run it in a VM on my Macbook Pro for quite a while.

  • I'm using Mint about 3 months ago and It is completely flawless. I used to be an average Windonws user but thank to Mint now I'm a proud linux user

  • 5:32 "… to the DOT."

  • I'm installing both on 2 PCs. Epiphany browser caused Elementary OS to lock up, so I installed Firefox.
Later on I'll give an update on their functionality, mint seems stable, Elementary is more simplicity.

I'll give Elementary to someone who is computer illiterate for simple tasks, like surfing or documents.
Mint to someone who can do more such as video-editing or gaming.

  • Yes! but unfortunately, the video in full screen in the second screen using the nvidia card, they have not fixed it yet. I can not work with a single screen.

  • Can you recommend me an OS to dual boot with Windows 10? My daily work on my laptop is to web browsing (chrome), listening to music, watching movies, reading and editing documents (pdf, ms word, ms excel). I thought of installing never ware cloud ready os but they do not support dual boot feature. Having support for Android apps would be great too, please help.

I had Ubuntu 18.10 and 18.04 installed before and both of them for unknown reasons started crashing on the startup so I went back to Windows 10. I want to use a lightweight OS for daily tasks and Windows for softwares like QuickBooks, PowerBi, Excel etc.
