In this video I go over the timeless question “Which Linux Distribution should I choose?” that haunts us Linux users. I’m going to try and demystify this so you can get to understanding Linux Distros. Everyone is very opinionated about this and what works for one person may not work for another. Instead of going over the literally 100s of distributions lets focus on the types to choose from and pick one from each.
Types of Linux
Debian and Ubuntu
Slackware and SUSE
RHEL, CentOS, and Fedora
Arch

I guess it's like Sonic the Hedgehog of operating systems.
Android has come a long way, and I intend to use it as a (non-touchscreen) laptop operating system for a whole year and make a 20-minute video about how it worked. This could be quite interesting.
I hate it if I search for other operating Systems (like ReactOS) and the people are giving me thousands of Debian-based and Arch-based fucking Linux… WHY? I hate that1
Slackware does not have a horrible package manager. It's just that by default, it has no dependency management.
I have a problem with my peppermint OS system. My computer always ends up using a lot of Ram. and all I'm running are conky, a wallpaper app, a dock app and mozilla firefox with a few tabs how do I get my computer to use fewer resources? shouldn't peppermint OS be fairly lightweight?
Maybe this is out of place in your views of Linux but there is an important Linux excluded.
These you're discussing are great for standalone permanent computers.
.
One of my favourites is Puppy Linux – I'll explain.
.
An old 486 computer died.
Plug in your Puppy USB drive.
Puppy installs to ram – No hard drive required.
.
Very often you can recover all files from your broken operating system (assuming the hard drive spins)
.
You can continue using your broken PC until you get around to fixing it.
.
You can also plug it into someone else's computer and it will be personalized for you.
.
Their pc won't even know you were there.
Anything you save or modify will be done on your USB drive for next time.
.
If you jump around from pc to pc you might have to tweak the network card and video settings.
Watching this op openSUSE Tumbleweed
I used to really enjoy Gentoo. I came to think of it more than a hobby than an OS.
Deb Ian… Deb dumped Ian.
deebian
You should try the Balmer's peak distro
While I wouldn’t recommend to anyone, I got a heart for gentoo.
What version of linux are you using…and what would or do you use for gaming
Thank you sooo much for helping us to sift through the tons of information that us noobies are standing in front of. It’s daunting, as I’m sure you remember. LOL!
Keep up the great work!!!
where can I find that tree graf? I would love to make that a back ground
Awesome explanation. I ended up installing mint. If i had seen ur video before i would stick to CentOS or debian. Thanks for clearing things. Other channels promote almost any destros with partial info.
i dont agree with splintering being bad,if there was only ubuntu or redhat they would try to paywall you in 2 seconds and box you in,they would go for the money in a heartbeat, options is always good,if you compare today with the 80s and 90s the only place with any diversity or fun is the opensource community, the rest is a big corporation funeral and scorched earth policy.
Q: What distribution have you used
Me:Yes
…
friend you are new to linux ubuntu is not a good os anymore it use to be until 2011 not anymore mint is the best for new comers like you it is like ubuntu use to be ..now i used ubuntu from 2004 red hat before that and many others before red hat there is a good linux system you can get from internet archive called vivid puppy linux it can run in ram it is a big system do most anything with it has almost 5 GIB'S of programs you need to do a lot of research on linux it is the greatest os of all it runs 80% of all web servers it can do more than mac and ws by ten fold don't be fool by all the hipy
Mint is now 19.3 and it's LTS (long term service and updates).
I installed it for the first time and can confirm that EVERY part of my new HP laptop was detected without a single bash command. The WIFI wasn't detected upon install (I had to use a hard wired connection), but once I hit update, the drivers installed automatically.
Mint gives you the ease of windows with the power of Linux. It runs FAR faster than windows 10. Me likes.
okay, so to me, basically all linux have a core but choosing a distro is determined by the flavour of the desktop theme such what you put on top of it like whether it is Unity, Gnome, KDE, XfCE, etc. So, when choosing a distro your choosing a which flavour you want.
archbtw
What is flat pack in comparison to these that you featured. Where can I find linux for dummies. Am fairly proficient with windows but want to learn more.
I recommend using manjaro its is the best for everyone from newbies to expert devs, dont waste the time on google choosing the right distro
Installing Gentoo from scratch is a great way to learn Linux architecture fundamentals
I got a copy of Puppy Linux to run on some 20 year old laptops and make them run internet. Some do it great, some don’t. Still trying to figure the rest of it out.
The main thing is that everything has different names, weird names.
So basically, Redhat linux doesn't get updated that much, that means its more stable and reliable that makes it perfect for Buisness.
Gentoo is suitable only if you want it to do one specific Task. That makes it more fast??
P.S: you sound like you really love Archlinux haha
